Culinary Resort in the Hudson River Valley
In Collaboration with Livia Brodie
The site is located in Hyde Park near the Culinary Institute of America. During the first weeks of this project, our class analyzed the program and site to try to get a better understanding of the project. We looked at both the more technical components of the site and the artistic, historic components to try to capture a holistic understanding.
Situated facing the Hudson River, our hotel’s gentle faceted shape ensures each visitor a view of the river and wooded landscape. With a central “H” space intersecting the hotel rooms, this hotel creates a public space where guests can come and experience fine dining, wine tasting, and comfortable lounge space.
In front of the hotel is a lawn lined with trees on one side and space for mixed-use growth in the future. On the lower level guest can relax at the spa or rent a cabana and enjoy the pool. Just like a Hudson River Valley Painting, our hotel tried to capture the essence of the landscape by using materials rooted in the vernacular, referencing the local material and construction methods.
Our residential villas and duplexes are also inspired by the local historic dutch architecture in the nearby area. Each villa is nestled in the woods to allow city-dwellers an escape.
