North Miami Beach Youth Center

Located in Surfside Miami, adjacent to oceanfront park, this youth center was designed to be a community hub continuation of the park. By housing most of the program in an open-air structure, this project brings the feeling of the park into the project.

The center is located on the left side of the lot, in an effort to preserve the park views and property values of the adjacent condo building. The project is lifted on piloti to protect against flooding. Other design concepts found within the project were adapted from tropical architecture precedents; including, arcades, overhangs, louvers, and double roofs. Additionally, the exterior circulation is placed on the outside of the building, not only to help shade and cool the building, but to offer visitors the chance to experience the neighborhood in new ways.
