Alpina PurPata Pedestrian Bridge
The goal of this project was to choose a native plant specimen and use it as inspiration to design from nature. My chosen specimen was Alpina Purpurta, commonly known as Red Ginger. By drawing the plant from observation and then dissecting it I was able to find several possible patterns off of which to base the bridge design. Ultimately, I chose to design the bridge based off the sessile fibers found within the stalk.
I wanted to create a pedestrian bridge where users could access the water. Using the sessile fibers concept, this bridge was designed with the intention of continuing the landscape in an organic accessible way.
